WILL CINQUE TERRE BE OPEN IN 2012? YES, YES, YES

Going toward tourist season in Cinque Terre…and the famous 5 villages will be ready as ever to welcome their guests.

Flood was horrible last October, but recovery went fast. This beautiful land proved to be able to resist the hardest of trials; in this land, forged by strong winds, breaking waves and heavy rain and dried up by a healing sun that shines for the most part of the year, people are exceptionally strong and proud and they did not wait for State or European monetary funds to come for restoring their wounded buildings and roads.
Just the day after the disgraceful event, helped by a fantastic “army” of volunteers, they rolled up their sleeves and started to clean the area. Mud, debris mixed to tears, discouragement but also laughs and hope raised by a fantastic solidarity brought the villages of Monterosso and Vernazza to see the light again.
Now reconstruction is still in progress, but many big works have been done and taken to completion. Most of the damaged ground floor business will soon reopen. In Monterosso tourist season will officially start at the end of March while in Vernazza on May 1st
So, it is definitely possible to visit Cinque terre in 2012.
RIOMAGGIORE, MANAROLA and CORNIGLIA had no damage at all so ready as ever to offer an unique and distinguished tourist offer.

VERNAZZA, too, will do its part and, even with scars, it will welcome visitors. The tourist season will officially start in Vernazza on May 1st and even though not all the businesses will be open, the majority of owners will reopen their rooms, apartments, restaurants and pubs to welcome visitors.

Here words from Mayor Vincenzo Resasco “Proseguono i lavori per la messa in sicurezza del paese con gli interventi sulle frane lungo il canale e per le vie del paese dove stanno proseguendo i lavori sulle infrastrutture quali acqua e gas – dichiara Vincenzo Resasco, Sindaco di Vernazza – inoltre ipotizziamo che ai primi di maggio si avranno bar e ristoranti aperti pronti a fornire servizi ai cittadini e turisti che vorranno visitare il nostro borgo”. (“Works to put village back into safety are going on, with interventions on the landslides on the channel and the village streets. We also work on water and gas supply pipes…we think that by early May pubs and restaurants will be open again to offer all necessary services to all tourists willing to visit our village”)

In the meantime reservations for all the area are going nicely. People from all over the world love this land so much that they do not want to make Cinque Terre people lack their support even this year. It is rewarding for all the inhabitants and workers of the entire area!
